KURT ELLING: 1619 BROADWAY, THE BRILL BUILDING PROJECT
January 19, 7:00 & 9:30 PM
JAZZ GREAT SHOWS HIS SOULFUL SIDE
Grammy-winning jazz vocalist, Kurt Elling, brings a bit of New York City to Indy. Featuring music from his recently released recording, Elling highlights songs that came out of New York’s Brill Building, famous for its three decades of musical tenants from Jimmy Van Huesen to Paul Simon. The show, which has received high critical acclaim for “its beautifully crafted, razor-edged mix of bittersweet ballads, reconfigured doo-wop, and upgraded soul,” includes such songs as “Come Fly with Me,” “You Send Me,” “On Broadway,” “A House is Not a Home,” and more.

SHOSHANA BEAN: GET HAPPY, THE STREISAND SONGBOOK

BROADWAY DIVA TAKES ON MUSICAL ICON
Broadway star, Shoshana Bean, takes the audience on a journey through The Streisand Songbook. From classic to contemporary, the show features her own interpretations of standards like “Cry Me A River,” “On A Clear Day” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade.” Like her idol Streisand, Shoshana began her career in New York in the off-Broadway revival of Godspell. She then went on to star in the Tony-Award winning original cast of Hairspray and eventually went on to replace Idina Menzel as Elphaba in Broadway’s Wicked. Most recently Shoshana wowed listeners with her modern soulful stylings in her solo CD Superhero.

BROADWAY AND SMASH STAR STEPS OUT IN FRONT
One of stage and screen’s brightest young stars shines in his cabaret debut. Leslie’s show features songs from his roles on Broadway (Rent, Leap of Faith,) and the hit NBC musical drama Smash, along with songs by his idols including Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. Armed with a voice that scintillates with subtle power and brilliant clarity, Leslie is worthy of the spotlight.

INTERNATIONAL ARTIST BOLDLY REINTERPRETS “THE POET”
With fresh and insightful interpretations, cabaret star Barb Jungr breathes new life into the music of Bob Dylan. Hailed by critics, the show has been called “revelatory” by the NY Post and “cosmic” by The Wall Street Journal. The New York Times praised the performance saying it “landed with an explosion.” In 2011, Jungr received NY Nightlife’s Award for Outstanding Cabaret Vocalist, the Backstage Bistro Award for Best International Artist, and Time Out NY’s #1 Top Live Cabaret Act for 2011.

AUSTRALIA’S NAUGHTY KITTY IS “PURR” DELIGHT
Bustier-clad, singing sensation Meow Meow has wowed audiences globally with her provocative brand of post-post-postmodern performance. With a voice described as “Diamanda Galas drowned in cherry liqueur,” the vampy, comical, sexy and slightly deranged chanteuse “drags cabaret kicking and screaming into the 21st century” (Time Out NY). Sequins and satire; witty wicked Weimar; 60’s French pop; Brel, Brecht, Kitt, and more.
The multi-award-winning Meow Meow has had sell-out shows from New York’s Lincoln Center and Berlin to London’s West End and the Sydney Opera House. Meow Meow’s shows have been curated by David Bowie and Mikhail Baryshnikov, amongst others. In 2013 Meow will appear in Paris and London with the London Philharmonic as Jenny in Brecht/Weill’s Threepenny Opera.

CONTEMPORARY COMPOSER EXPLORES THE PATHS OF LIFE
Renowned musical theatre composer/lyricist, Scott Alan and Broadway star, Caissie Levy, perform music from Scott’s extensive original songbook and share the inspiration and stories behind them. Scott’s thoughtful and moving original compositions have made him a favorite among many well-known artists including Sutton Foster, Jonathan Groff, Stephanie J. Block and Liz Callaway. The evening features songs from his four original albums and his new musical, Home, which debuted on Broadway in 2012.

UTE LEMPER: THE LAST TANGO IN BERLIN

GERMANY’S SEARING SIREN
German cabaret icon, Ute Lemper takes the audience on a journey through Berlin (Brecht, Weill) to the poetic universe of the French chansons (Brel, Piaf, Ferre) and to the Argentinean world of Tango (Astor Piazzolla) all while telling the stories of love lost, survival, and passion.
Ute Lemper is renowned all over the world for making her mark on the stage, in films, in concert and as a unique recording artist. Theatrical credits include a recreation of the Marlene Dietrich-created Lola in The Blue Angel, the original European Sally Bowles in the Paris production of Cabaret, the title role in Peter Pan, the Viennese cast of Cats and Velma Kelly in Chicago.
