Indiana Children's Wish Fund: Christmas in the Kitchen 2015 to be held December 11

One of Indianapolis' (if not THE) top foodie fundraisers annually is gearing up for its holiday event: Christmas in the Kitchen at the Hyatt Regency downtown Fri., Dec. 11. There is no fundraiser I look forward to more than this one, folks. It's a chance to dress up, have an insider's look at the chefs' world, and give to a worthy cause, all while sipping fabulous cocktails and wine, and nibbling your way through the smorgasbord of gourmet cuisine. The Indiana Children's Wish Fund receives the money raised through tickets and an extraordinary silent auction.

The event will be overseen by William Hawkins, Hyatt's executive chef. Working for a Washington D.C. congressman, a country club, and as far away as South Africa, the east coast bred chef explains why this opportunity to give to the local children means so much to him.

"As chefs and cooks, it is inherently in our nature to show a great deal of pride in the work that we do and the food that we create, I think that just knowing the good that this dinner does helps to push us to produce the absolutely best over the top function we can create. It's something my cooks begin talking about as far as six or seven months in advance and we look forward to every year.

Normally we work behind the scenes so this banquet is unique in that we open the doors of our kitchen to the public, we set up numerous stations around our kitchen, and we encourage our guests to interact with us, to have a look around and peek behind the curtain at what we do. There’s an awesome feeling of connection their and were extremely proud of using our talents to give back to the community that has done so much for us."

Along with specialty cocktails, wines and after dinner drinks, the menu will include a wide array of gourmet meats, desserts, appetizers and seafood. Just a few items include: babaganoush, blue point oysters on the half shell, ceviche shooters, stout and citrus braised beef short ribs, smoked pork cheek, cornmeal dusted walleye, rosemary and horseradish crusted prime rib, smoked maple and Siracha brined heritage pork loin, charred herb-crusted lamb chops, mint and sorrel chimichurri, egg nog crème brulee, mint cheesecake, coconut cake, candy cane fudge and cranberry bread pudding.

Festive live holiday music by Blair Clark will be provided throughout the evening.

Individual tickets are $150 (admittance into the event with seating) or $100 per person (admittance into the event without seating). They are almost sold out, so get them quickly.

Indiana Children’s Wish Fund, established in 1984, grants wishes to Indiana children, ages 3-18, who suffer from a life-threatening illness. To date, the organization has granted more than 3,200 wishes to Indiana children.

Reservations are limited. To purchase tickets, contact Indiana Children’s Wish Fund at (317) 913-WISH or visit IndyWish.org.

Christ Church Cathedral Women's 49th Annual Strawberry Festival June 12 in Downtown Indianapolis

Ahhhh yes indeed... it is that time of year again (thank goodness after this long, harsh winter). And nothing says summer like the festivals in, and around, Indiana, including the Christ Church Cathedral Women's 49th Annual Strawberry Festival.

I don't know many people, particularly in this area of the states, who don't like berries in general and strawberries are the first to show their juicy little selves every summer. And, with the exception of those who are allergic, I don't truly trust anyone who doesn't like strawberries...

They represent a beacon of light showing us that the long, harsh winter is finally behind us. And... we like them every way we can get them: straight from the garden, pies, cakes, with sugar, in fruit salads and every other concoction. But, perhaps most of all, we like strawberry shortcake. And the annual Monument Circle event has been around, seemingly, forever, to most of us.

Every year, hundreds of volunteers, church, civil, celebrity and media, line up to scoop, dish and hand out thousands of strawberry shortcakes. I like that. The volunteers, the food and the continuity of the event, not altering the great menu and keeping the price incredibly reasonable ~ $7 ~ (especially considering it is for non profit groups) which means we can get more than one and feel good helping others at the same time. A win-win for everyone in my book.

When is the strawberry festival? Thursday, June 12. It runs from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m., but to-go orders can be scooped up (get it?) beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the basement of Christ Church Cathedral Don't wake me, okay? I will be there later, but not too late because when supplies run out, they are done for the year. And, there is not much more disappointing then your taste buds being robbed of something yummy.

Once again, it is a cash only situation, but and ATM will be onsite for those who forget. Live entertainment begins at 10 a.m. this year. Christ Church Cathedral Women has hosted the Strawberry Festival every summer since 1965. More than 300 volunteers will be on-hand to serve an estimated six tons of strawberries and 18,000 homemade shortcakes. Festival proceeds benefit local, national and global nonprofit organizations through bi-annual grants.

America's Got Talent Auditions Held in Indianapolis

Well, looks like we hit the big time ~ again. Indy 500, Super Bowl 46 and now, "America's Got Talent." Or, at least the auditions. Residents of the Hoosier state can join in to compete for the chance to... compete. Talented Indiana singers, dancers and magicians (just to name a few) will be able to audition at the Indiana Convention Center.

Performers will showcase their particular talent at the downtown Indianapolis location for the opportunity to appear on telelvision for the final $1 million prize top award. NBC's modern-day variety show features animal trainers, contortionists and, well, pretty much any talent. Auditions are 90-seconds and performed in front of the show's producers. Don't expect to see the big names show up for the beginning rounds of qualifications. Those making the cut get the chance to take the stage in front of “America’s Got Talent” celebrity judges: Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howard Stern, and host Nick Cannon.

The event takes place from 8 am-7 pm, January 25-26, 2014.

Everry type of talent is welcome. Those interested in registration, full details and requirements, should visit AmericasGotTalentAuditions.com.

Indiana Pacers Hold 2011 Pacers Draft Party June 23

"2011 PACERS DRAFT PARTY” JUNE 23

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers will host the “2011 Pacers Draft Party,” on Thursday night, June 23 in Conseco Fieldhouse. The party, which has drawn over 5,000 fans each of the last three years, is free to all Pacers fans. Doors open to the general public at 7:00 p.m.
The Pacers are scheduled to pick 15th in this year’s NBA Draft, and again at number 42 in the second round. “I think this is a very good draft,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “I’m very confident we will not only get a player with our first-round pick that can help us, but also with our second-round pick. I’m really looking forward to this draft.”
“We are very excited for this Draft Party,” said Pacers Sports & Entertainment President Jim Morris. “The way our team finished this past season and how we connected with our fans has given us an extra boost during the off season. We want to share that excitement and energy with the community on draft night.”
The first 1,000 fans to RSVP online at Pacers.com will enjoy “dinner on us” as the Pacers will provide a hot dog, chips and soft drink to each member of the family. Pacers gold rally towels and a Pacers.com Draft Guide will also be available. Fans at the party can enjoy face painting, balloons and more; and prizes will be awarded to lucky winners. Additionally, all fans attending the Draft Party receive free parking in the Virginia Avenue Garage (subject to availability). Former and current Pacers players, Boomer and the Pacemates will be on hand to meet and greet the crowd throughout the evening.
The in-arena coverage of the draft, featuring Pacers announcers Chris Denari and Quinn Buckner, will begin at 7:00 p.m. ESPN’s coverage of the draft will begin at 7:30 p.m.
To get ready for the 2011 NBA Draft, fans can visit All-Access Draft Central on Pacers.com for exclusive scouting reports and video interviews with all prospects as well as frequent blog updates from Conrad Brunner and Mark Boyle and a mock draft database.
